A Walking Song

1 I am weak but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I'll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.Refrain:
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.2 Thro' this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee. [Refrain]3 When my feeble life is o'er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o'er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore. [Refrain]
I often sing “Just a Closer Walk With Thee” as I take a walk. It’s a good one for walking. You can make a rhythm with your footsteps that go along with the music. Do you have a favorite walking song?
I especially like the lines:
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
Jesus and I walking together every day, all day long. Isn’t that a beautiful thought? You’re never alone. He’s there, right beside you.
Once, in a Bible study discussion, a friend said she sometimes feels like God doesn’t love her. Sometimes she is afraid she isn’t good enough, hasn’t done the right stuff, or isn’t loving God enough herself. It’s like she can’t love God sometimes. “It’s hard,” she said, choking up. We all tried to reassure her with verses and statements based on Scripture. She nodded to all our contributions and said, “But it’s hard to believe that. I know it all in my head, but I don’t feel it in my heart. Sometimes, I just don’t love him.” One thing I said was something like, “But it’s not about you loving him; it’s about him loving you. It says so in the Bible.” As she wiped her tears, she said, “Thanks, that helps.”
The verse I was trying to quote is:
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. ~~I John 4:10
How reassuring is that? Not that we love God, but that he loves us. Sometimes we aren’t sure about ourselves. Do I love God? Do I even believe in Him? I’m not feeling it. But that’s not what it’s about. He loves us. He loves us.
What we think, how we feel, what we do, what we say, who we spend time with, what we believe, what our motives are, how what we do and say affects others, the decisions we make, the actions we take— all of who, what, where, and why we are matters. It matters immensely. AND God loves us. Always. He loves you and is walking beside you, matching your every step, every day, every minute, everywhere.
