What if…

Today I heard a sentence I loved:

Makes me wonder how different Christianity might have been if the central message was simply: God forgives you. ~Tim Nash, Nomad podcast

Yes!

I write this Email of God’s Love to remind you of the simple message: God loves you.

Because he loves you, he forgives you.

Richard Rohr has a lot to say about Jesus. I’ve written quite a bit about his words. He has a lot of wisdom. Here’s a quote on forgiveness:

Every time God forgives, God is saying that relationship is more important than God’s own rules. ~Richard Rohr, Center for Action and Contemplation

When we’ve broken the rules, when we have said (or not said), done (or not done) what we should have, what the rules say, even when what we have done seems unforgivable, God forgives us. Richard Rohr says that relationship is more important than the rules. What does that mean? What is our relationship with God? LOVE. I think we could rewrite the sentence to say:

Every time God forgives, God is saying that his love for us is more important than God’s own rules.

God loves you. He forgives you.
