Rome - Italy Day 1

We are in Rome!

We left Seattle yesterday about 9 in the morning and arrived today in Rome around noon. Our flights went fine. There was a bit of a delay with the flight from Seattle to Atlanta so by the time we got off the plane, our flight to Italy was boarding already. Of course, that put me into a tizzy. We rushed toward the E concourse, and at one point there was one sign to wait for the “plane train,” and one going down a big hall. We weren’t sure what to do, and finally Randy said, “I’m going.” He started down the moving sidewalk. I hesitated by the train stop and saw a worker pushing a wheelchair. I asked her if we should take the train to the E concourse. She said yes, so I shouted to Randy, “Ran! The train is faster. This is the way to go.” He turned around and started walking the wrong way on the moving sidewalk. The train came, and I stepped on. I thought I’d get there first and make them hold the plane for him. (Me the hero.) He missed that train, came on the next, and all was fine. They were still boarding.

We purchased premium seats for the long flight. Nicest seat we’ve ever had on a plane. It was a splurge, but so nice to have the extra room. Good food, too.

Cori had a taxi waiting for us at the airport. The driver held up a sign with my name. We’re about half an hour from the airport. She and I went for a walk after I had showered and napped. Randy slept the whole time. He was pooped. Our VRBO is about 5 minutes from St. Peter’s Basilica (the Vatican). The sun was going down, and with the clouds, the scenes looked like paintings.
