Ghost town, Grafton

Randy read about a nearby ghost town and we always love to see the old buildings, homes, and graveyards of long ago communities. This one was better than we expected—a beautiful setting and you can tell the buildings are lovingly preserved.

The next day we took it easy. We took a side trip to some Pink Sand Dunes and that evening went out to dinner for a nice treat. I wore my new turquoise necklace.

We started at the cemetery. So many stories, often heartbreaking.

One of the heartbreaking stones for an infant.

The Berry family has a small plot here. There was a sign telling about the settlement and some of the causes of deaths. There were wars with the Native Americans, several of whom are buried in the cemetery, too. Two of the Berry family and some others had stones that said, “Killed by Indians.”

Me on the church steps.

An orchard.

A perfect tiny little flower.

The “pink” sand dunes were popular with ATVs and sand surfers.

“ A Kind Mother. A Dutiful and Affectionate WIFE. A Faithful Saint. Awaits a RESURRECTION With the Just.”

The church in Grafton. This was a Mormon settlement.

Me in my new necklace, bought from the Navajo artist at a roadside table.
