Beautiful skies, bad news, and Bingo

Tuesday was a beautiful day in Yuma, blue skies & puffy clouds. We went to the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area, which is near the prison museum we went to yesterday. There’s an “Ocean to Ocean Bridge” there and it’s also the site of a huge siphon that brings water to Yuma. The whole thing of water damming, being siphoned, redirected, etc. is such a huge, seemingly un-solve-able puzzle, isn’t it? It’s great the siphon gives water to Yuma for humans and farms and so on, but the effect on the environment is awful for many plants and animals, which in turn affects people, too. The park was interesting, with lots of displays with interesting historical information.

The bad news I refer to in this blog entry’s title is regarding the AC. Monday Randy brought the trailer to an RV repair place Bill recommended and things looked hopeful. The guy thought he had the motor needed because he has a bunch of them used by the type of AC on our trailer. However, it turned out it’s a newer model that he would have to order and it will take 2-3 weeks to get here. So, no AC for the rest of this trip. I saw today that our friends in Gallup said it was snowing. I’m not necessarily hoping for snow but I am hoping it won’t be too hot and we won’t suffer from having no AC. It always feels like glamping to me to be in a trailer with AC and heating, but I’ll miss it when we want it and it’s not there. So spoiled.

Tonight Smidty and I are going to Bingo! Haha. Bingo makes me think of the movie “Murphy’s Romance.” There’s a cute scene in there where the Sally Field character plays Bingo in the small town. The whole movie is cute. There are all kinds of activities that Smidty loves to participate in and even lead. Besides Bingo, she organizes a “Ladies Who Lunch” group who go to a local restaurant together once a month, she and Bill are in a “Convertible Group” (they have a little Miata convertible), Smidty also goes to several different card game groups. She loves games. We’ve played games every evening, first one called Sequence and then Mexican Train.

Do we sound old? Yes. Yes, we are. There it is. But the great thing is being with our friends. Bill was Randy’s roommate way back in their college days. We would see Bill every so often over the years and were certain he was a confirmed bachelor for life. But he met Smidty when he was in his 40s and today is their 25th anniversary. They enjoy doing the kinds of things we enjoy, like visiting these historical places and wine tasting and other day trips. We always have fun being with them. For several years after they retired they were campground hosts for the summer and lived here in Yuma for the winters. They made their 5th wheel trailer their home for those years. Now they have this little house in a trailer park in Yuma and they live in their 5th wheel in Show Low, AZ.

Us by the Yuma sign at the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area.

The flag at half mast in honor of Madeleine Albright, one of my heroes.

Another bright bird.

A bottle brush willow tree. I’ve never seen that before.

A Bingo selfie.

The sign was missing its “Y” so Bill filled in.

Flags in front of the blue sky and puffy clouds.

We went to a funny little museum, a local business man’s home and it had this “photo op” room.

Only one away on the last round of Bingo.

We celebrated 25 years of wedded bliss for these lovebirds!
